  • Thank you to our PARENTS!

Parents Day 2015 was held on Friday, September 25. We had students' family members visiting from several states and it was truly a great day on our campus! We began the morning with Devotions by President David Parrish. Mr. Parrish delivered a message on believing in God at all times and it was a great way for us to kick off the morning together. Then we had doughnuts and coffee before parents and family members joined their students in their classes. Summit Christian College is a great environment for students of all backgrounds. We have a small campus so it is very much like a family environment. What we lack in size, we greatly make up for in our close-knit relationships. It is no secret that once a student shows up to SCC, they are rapidly welcomed into our family. We are so glad to see family members supporting their students' success at Summit Christian College!

  • Anticipating the Gift... A Christmas Letter from Summit Christian College

Anticipating the Gift... I can easily recall, as a young boy, eyeing the colorful presents that were tucked away under the glowing Christmas tree in hopeful anticipation, wondering what could be hidden inside those beautiful packages and how my life was about to be improved for the better. However, unlike my more clever brothers, the art of predicting what those brightly wrapped packages actually contained was not one of my stronger traits. I like to contend that my inability to predict well stemmed from my preference for wanting to be surprised. But for whatever the reason, I simply wasn’t good at guessing. If predicting what we might get for Christmas is tough, consider how well the prophets of the Old Testament were able to predict, with astounding accuracy and exacting detail, God’s amazing gift of salvation to us. Examples | Predicted | Fulfilled Born in Bethlehem | Micah 5:2 | Luke 2:4-7 Worshipped by Shepherds | Psalm 72:9 | Luke 2:9 Flight to Egypt | Hosea 11:1 | Matthew 2:13-14 Given the odds and when these prophecies were foretold, the accuracy of these Christmas gift predictions are breathtaking. Every year, SCC has published its annual Christmas Wish List. The list includes several items cut from the budget as the college strives to keep student cost down. Recognizing the value of these items in the overall operation of the college, the college uses the Wish List to share its needs. In response to the list, the college’s supporters have blessed us by donating special items on the list or giving funds to purchase them. If you see an item that you would like the college to purchase, please send a contribution toward that purchase, even if it is only a fraction of the total cost. When sending your donations, please write “Merry Christmas” on the memo line of your check. If you see an item on the list that you currently have and would like to donate to the college, please contact the college so that we can make delivery arrangements. If you wish to make a general gift to help support the college in a broader way, you can note that by leaving the memo line blank. Thank you for sharing in the ministry of sharing God’s gift to the world. David Parrish President, Summit Christian College Our Christmas Wish List Help with our Boiler: This year in addition to our regular Wish List, we are including a request for you to consider the possibility of giving a gift that will help us pay what is left on purchasing the campus’s new boiler. • Birdies, Fundraising and Prizes

We are so thankful to those that participated in this year's Summit Christian College Golf Tournament! We raised money while spending time with some of our college's greatest supporters so it was truly a great event. THANK YOU to all of the golfers that participated and helped raise money for SCC! And THANK YOU to all of our sponsors that helped support this tournament!

  • An Outpouring of Support

Once again we are delighted to share with you the outcome of our Christmas Wish List Appeal as we express our heartfelt gratitude for the tremendous outpouring of support that Summit Christian College has received yet again this year. Yes! Thanks to you and all of our friends, we ordered every one of the books itemized in our list. We also purchased two study carrels for the students' use. This is a tremendous boost to our campus library. Three desktop and two laptop computers that were needed to replace old, poorly functioning computers in our offices have been purchased and are now installed with the needed software. A projector was donated for one of our classrooms. Kitchen equipment that we listed has been purchased and the new fire door that protects the kitchen is now installed. Even the vacuum cleaner for the boy's dorm has been purchased and is being used. In addition to all of these important items, we included the campus boiler on our list, since this item was an unexpected blow to our budget. This was a $50,000 expense that simply could not be put off. Thanks to such a tremendous response to this year's Christmas Wish List, this $50,000 hit has ben dramatically reduced to only $5,000. So here we are again. Astonished. In celebration of God's greatest gift of all to all of us, in the form of his one and only son Jesus Christ, we want to take this opportunity to praise him for creating in his children the clearly visible spirit of kindness and good will that we find in all of you who have joined us in His service. Thank you for your friendship.

  • Another Successful Event: Summit to Summit 2015!

A whopping 515 walkers, runners and shuttle riders participated in this year's Summit to Summit Event! We had beautiul weather, a great turn out of fans and participants, and our very own Domingo Torres (a student at SCC!) was our winner for the race. We are so grateful to our communities for embracing this event and helping us to make sure it has grown every year. Our sponsors have been outstanding this year. A special thank you is owed to Bluffs Broadcasting and the Star-Herald, our Platinum Sponsors, for helping to promote this event.

  • Dorm Night: Bowling!

Our students pick a night about once a month to do a dorm activity. Last month we went bowling at Valley Bowling in Scottsbluff! We had a great night - just check out the video and see for yourself!

  • Semester Reflections and Season's Greetings!

Season's Greetings from all of us at Summit Christian College! We are wrapping up another wonderfully successful semester as students finish their finals, professors enter their final grades, and everyone is looking forward to Christmas with their families. This semester, we started with over 40 enrolled students! Although unexpected circumstances arose for some, we keep each of those students and their families in our prayers. In just a few months, many of our students have experienced many life-changing events, such as engagements, deaths and illnesses in the family, and more. We want all of our students to know that our staff and faculty stand behind them and are here for support at anytime. We can not thank our school's supporters enough. We are blown away on a daily basis by the generosity from our community, alumni, and school supporters. We are extremely grateful for your donations during the Christmas season, and throughout the year. We would truly not be able to educate our students for Christian leadership without your support. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

  • FOCUS FRIDAY: Ben Poole

Welcome to this week's Focus Friday! This week we get to learn more about Summit Christian College senior, Ben Poole! Ben is currently seeking a Bachelor of Science with a degree in Bible and Ministry. Why Summit Christian College? Ben chose SCC because he had a lot of friends who attended and he knew it was the only option for him because it was the only door God had opened. Ben's wife, Valarie also attended SCC. Life at Summit Christian College: Ben picks Revelation as his favorite class so far at SCC because it opened up a whole new perspective to scripture for him. Ben had a tough time picking a favorite professor, but he chose Mr. Mason as the most inspiring. He says Mr. Mason's stories are Awesome in class! As a senior, Ben is one of the guys who happily takes the underclassmen under his wing as a friend and a mentor. Life after college: Ben plans to preach the Word after his graduation in May, wherever God calls him to. More about Ben: If Ben could travel anywhere for free, he would go back to Russia where he previously traveled on a missions trip. If he returned to Russia, he would go back to visit the churches he was able to work with. Ben's favorite hobbies include hunting, hanging out with Valarie, and eating steak! (He's also a huge fan of sweets and coffee!) If Ben had three wishes, they would be: 1. All of his family would come to Christ. 2. That he will be able to preach/minister full time. 3. To soak up information from books by just by putting the book on his head! Ben's favorite Bible verse: Zephaniah 3:17 - The Lord your God is in your midst. A victorious warrior, he will exalt over you with joy. He will be quiet in his love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.

  • Take Notice Tuesday! Learn about Becca Lillie

Welcome back to the Summit Spirit! If you haven't noticed, our blog took a little hiatus, which means we missed out on a few Focus Friday posts! Becca Lillie noticed, which is why this week we're taking a new spin on the Focus Friday post for "Take Notice Tuesday!" There is no one better to take notice of this week than Miss Rebecca Emily Lillie herself (but please call her Becca!) who is a Junior at Summit that has come to us all the way from Gallup, New Mexico. (You may recognize this image as an SCC marketing favorite! It's Becca!) Why Summit Christian College? Becca is currently seeking a Bachelor of Science in Bible with a focus on Youth Ministry. Becca has a calling from God to be a junior high youth minister. --> In fact, in just a few short questions, she named "middle school students" as inspiration and passionate subjects 7 times! Life at Summit Christian College: So far, Becca has enjoyed her Christian Education classes at SCC the most because they have given her new tools for teaching and ways to make lessons fun for her future students. Her biggest inspiration on campus has been Aaron Prohs, a professor, because of the way he has impacted the way she looks at the Bible. Becca lives in the dorms on campus. The dorms give Becca a sense of family here and she loves that she's able to both give and receive encouragement from her peers in the dorms. Although Gering is quite different from Gallup, Becca loves how the community here is a "small-town, loving community" that makes her feel right at home, even 800 miles away. Life after college: Becca plans to move to California after graduation. Her ultimate goal is to work at a Christian Church and get her masters degree in teaching and a teaching license so she can teach middle school. More about Becca: Becca is a very friendly, high-energy, God-loving young woman that wants to share her passion with junior high students. In her free time, she loves to scrapbook and drink Diet Cherry Limeades from Sonic (Rt. 44 is the way to go!) and watch the Green Bay Packers win. Her favorite time of the year is Christmas time, because she loves to decorate, wrap gifts, and drink hot chocolate! Becca would love to travel the world and especially Europe because of the history and her family history there. As such a well-rounded individual, we're lucky to have Becca on our campus, sharing the Word with everyone she meets! If Becca had 3 wishes, they would be: 1. To have enough money to get a master's degree. 2. To go and see the world. 3. To have Blake's Lotaburger come to Nebraska. Becca's favorite Bible Verse: Romans 8:37-39 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  • Focus Friday: Emilie Lorraine Jones

Welcome to another Focus Friday! This week we get to learn more about Emilie Jones, a Junior at Summit Christian College from Alliance, NE! Why Summit Christian College? Emilie originally chose to come to SCC when she learned about the college in her church, at summer camps and youth rallies. She grew up in a strong Christian home on a small ranch, and her sister attended SCC as well (she graduated with her Certificate in Christian Foundations). Emilie was further drawn to SCC when she learned it was inexpensive and close to home. Finally, SCC met her life and ministry goals: To strengthen her faith, learn how to share it, and learn how to teach. Life at Summit Christian College Emilie is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Bible. She achieved her Associate of Arts in Bible degree from SCC in May of 2014. Her favorite SCC classes so far have been New Testament (NT) classes such as Acts and NT Survey because they helped her understand the demographics of the NT books and how to apply the principles within them to her life and ministry. Emilie says she has found Andi Grant to be one of her most inspiring professors at SCC because Andi has modeled how learning can be fun while still hitting the key points of each subject. Life at after college After achieving her Bachelor's Degree, Emilie plans to marry Ryan Yates, pursue some sort of equine ministry, children's ministry or Sunday School teaching. Wherever she goes, she plans to be sensitive to Christ's leading. Ryan Yates and Emilie Jones during the 2014 Choir Tour More about Emilie There are tons of interesting facts about Emilie that make her the wonderfully talented, optimistic and beautiful young woman that she is! Outside of school, she loves to ride horses and go for walks or bike rides through the beautiful residential part of town. Emilie helped break two horses growing up and she loves training animals. She considers herself "chronically happy," and believes she is beautiful just the way God made her. Reading Bible commentaries and learning in any way that interests her are some of Emilie's favorite ways to pass time. Emilie loves lasagna, broccoli-rice casserole, cinnamon rolls and cabbage burgers. She loves Twix and Salted Nut Rolls when she wants candy. If Emilie had three wishes, they would be: 1. To be able to travel worldwide without finances. She would love to go to Ireland some day because it is pretty, has castles, and would be a good place to ride horses - she loves the green landscape! 2. To spend weekdays riding her horse and weekends hanging out in the city with her friends. 3. To be able to ride a horse bare-back and bridle-less and to still be in full control. Emilie's Favorite Bible Verses: Proverbs 21:21 Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor. Ephesians 4:29 Let no unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
