Each spring Summit Christian College recognizes its outstanding students, student leaders, mentors and mentees, and scholarship winners during its Spring Awards Banquet. In the past, this event has featured a formal dinner prepared and hosted by our student leaders followed by an awards presentation in the SCC Chapel. Due to the current restrictions of COVID-19, the college will be announcing its award winners throughout this week.
Today, we are pleased to announce the winner of the Mentored Ministry Mentor of the Year award is Del Hamon. Del is the pastor of Lyman Christian Church. He has been part of the Mentored Ministry program for three years.
What makes a good mentor? A good mentor is committed to the type of relationship that equips the mentee for personal growth and ministry development.
College faculty asked the students to submit a recommendation, telling why they are nominating their mentor for the award. The faculty then chooses the winner based on those recommendations. The faculty this year received two letters or recommendation for our winner. Here are some excerpts from those letters:
"He is a great mentor, supporter and has helped me grow so much...He is generous with the opportunities he gives me to learn...I truly love and appreciate everything he has done for me and think he definitely deserves the honor of this award."
"He has a kind heart and a love for Summit and the students. He goes way beyond that (teaching, guiding, encouraging) on a personal level."
